About VLCTPP

Vedanta Limited Chhattisgarh Thermal Power Plant

In 2022, Vedanta Limited acquired Athena Chhattisgarh Power Limited, a stalled 1,200 MW thermal power project comprising two units of 600 MW each, located at Singhitarai in District Sakti, Chhattisgarh. The acquisition was completed through liquidation proceedings under the provisions of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.

Following the acquisition, the project was amalgamated with Vedanta Limited by virtue of an order passed by the Hon’ble National Company Law Tribunal, Hyderabad, in July 2023. Pursuant to this amalgamation, the plant was renamed Vedanta Ltd. Chhattisgarh Thermal Power Plant (VLCTPP).

In July 2025, VLCTPP successfully completed its trial run and received Commercial Operation Declaration (COD) for Unit 1 (600 MW), marking its formal operationalization. Today, with a diversity ratio of 19% and a fully developed township, VLCTPP stands as a symbol of revival, rapidly emerging as a modern, efficient, and high-performing asset for both Vedanta and the state of Chhattisgarh.
